Serena Williams has kept her dream of winning 22 grand slam titles on course, beating fellow American, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 to join elder sister, Venus in the round of 16 at the US Open. It was Serena’s 31st straight Grand slam victory.

The World number one and defending champion, overcame erratic and sloppy play in the first set, accumulating many unforced errors that gave the 30 year old Bathanie the advantage to close up the set 6-3.

But in the second set, Serena moved quickly and struggle to establish some ranking order, when she raced away 5-3 only to fall apart when serving for the set. Bethanie broke her and went ahead to hold her own serve, levelling the set 5-5. But Serena held her nerves in the next two games, broke Bethanie back and held serve, to clinch the set 7-5.

The third set was vintage Serena. She beat the poor American opponent 6-0.

Serena’s next opponent is also an American, Madison Keys, who beat the 15th seed Agnieszka Radwanska, 6-3, 6-2.
Madison was seeded 19th.

And a quarter-final showdown with Sister Venus looms in the corner.
