Boko Haram militants are reportedly attacking villages in remote northern areas of Cameroon, just a day after a female suicide bombing emissary killed 21 people in Maroua and injured 85 others.

The villages under attack are in Dzama Mogoda and Mayo-Moskota.

Earlier today, the insurgents also attacked Tchebetchebe, also near Mayo Moskota.

The villagers are said to be at the mercy of the militants as Cameroonian troops could not get to them because of rain.

Meanwhile, Boko Haram has threatened to kill the mayor of the municipality of Lagdo north of Cameroon, Maha Abakaï and 15 other hostages, including four women and councillors who have been held hostage for almost five months.

The insurgents called for the release of their leader, Aboubakar Sidiki and 11 other persons in government custody.
