Recently, as part of the moves to put the heat on Boko Haram, President Muhammadu Buhari took some steps. Apart from visiting neighbouring countries of Chad and Niger Republic and relocating the military brass hats to Borno State, he held a meeting with the current service chiefs: Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshall Alex Badeh; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Kenneth Minimah; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Adesola Amosu.
The photograph above became an object of jokes on social media, with a question (imaginary though) put on Buhari’s mouth, asking: “Now,where is the ‘boy’ who said I got no certificate?”
The same Nigerian Army which said it did not have Buhari’s certificate claimed later that it was in possession of it.
Another point to note here is that life is an irony. In the photograph too is Sambo Dasuki, the National Security Adviser. The same Dasuki of the Babangida Coup fame who, along with Col. Umar Dangiwa, arrested Buhari is now before President Buhari.
What the points above teach is that an institution like the Nigerian Army should be elevated above political influence. And whatever position one finds oneself, it is good to behave well for the sake of what the future may bring.
