Mr Abdullahi Muhammad, the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in State of Osun, on Wednesday said the union would join the strike called by the NLC and TUC.

Muhammad said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo while reacting to the move by labour to embark on a strike at the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum.

NAN reports that civil servants in the state were last paid in December 2014.

“It is no news that we are yet to receive our salary for some months now and we have been meeting with the government and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) over the issue.

“ I understand that the salaries of primary school teachers are going to be paid this week.

“The government has been given an ultimatum by the NLC and TUC, and a general strike has been declared.

“NUT has not gone on strike because of the upcoming strike that was declared by the two labour centres.

“We are going to join then because it concerns all civil servants in the state and it will include both primary and secondary school teachers.

Muhammad said that the strike would commence on May 26 if the demands of the union are not met.
