The governorship election in Imo State has been declared inconclusive.
Professor Ibidapo Obe, the returning officer made the declaration following massive cancellations of voting results in some wards and local councils.
The cancelled polling units have 144,715 voters which could affect the outcome of the election, Obe said.
From interim results declared in the state, Governor Rochas Okorocha is said to be leading in 20 out of 27 local government areas.
So far, Okorocha has won 385,671 votes compared to the 306,142 votes scored by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Emeka Ihedioha. Okorocha’s margin of lead is 79,529, which is less than the number of votes expected from the cancelled areas.
INEC similarly deferred declaring a winner in Imo in 2011.But in the rescheduled polls in four local government areas of Ngor-Okpalla, Mbaitoli, Oguta and Egbema as well as in Orji Ward in Owerri North Local Government Area, Okorocha, then a member of APGA defeated the PDP candidate.
