Elder statesman, Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno, on Friday urged Nigeria’s President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, to look away from Nigeria’s religious, tribal and ethnic differences while running the affairs of the country.

Buhari would be sworn into office on 29 May this year after winning the presidential election majorly between him and incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

Monguno, a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, who spoke in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, urged Buhari to know that irrespective of how the election played out in some areas, he still had votes from all the zones and states of the country.

The former Minister said Buhari must therefore work for the benefit of all once he takes the mantle of leadership.

Monguno, while urging Nigerians to pray for the success of the new administration, also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for accepting defeat at the polls, saying with the singular action, as well as the peaceful conduct of the poll, he had won the respect of Nigerians and enhanced the image of the country.

“Nigerians can now walk tall by raising their shoulders everywhere in the world,” Monguno said adding Nigerians can now proudly come out to say that they own the power to elect their leaders.
