Godsay Orubebe: show of shame

The Chairman, House of Representatives’ Committee on Finance, Rep. Abdulmuminu Suleiman (Kano-APC), on Tuesday condemned the action of the PDP chieftain at the Presidential election collation centre in Abuja.

The former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Godsday Orubebe, accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of bias in the electoral process.

Orubebe, who sat on the floor of the collation centre to express grievance, threatened to disrupt the process if a petition by PDP was not addressed by the commission.

He insisted that until the INEC chairman attended to his party’s petition, he would not allow him to continue the collation process.

“Jega promptly ordered investigation into All Progressives Congress (APC) protest against the polls in Rivers but refused to address PDP’s petition over the poll result from Kano state,’’ said Orubebe.

Abdulmuminu, however, described the action as a show of shame.

“I think it is a show of shame and I am happy that Nigerians are already condemning his action. If you have such grievance, there are lots of decent ways that you can go about expressing your point.

“But to go on and put up such show of shame, it is really unbecoming of someone who has been a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“We do also understand that there are people who are desperate and are trying to bring up some mischief,’’ the lawmaker noted.

He advised politicians to conduct themselves with decorum and avoid acts capable of truncating the democratic project.
