Nigeria’s U-20 national team have qualified for the 2015 Africa Youth Championship final following a 2-0 win over arch rivals Ghana on Wednesday in Senegal.

Having finished top of Group A with seven points, the Flying Eagles maintained their unbeaten run at the competition with a well earned victory over the Black Satellites.

An even opening to the encounter saw both sides create chances to break the deadlock, with Usman Saleh forcing a save from Ghana goalkeeper Michael Sai after two minutes while Yaw Yeboah was denied twice by Nigeria’s Joshua Enaholo.

The breakthrough came midway through the first half when Obinna Nwobodo headed in a Musa Muhammed cornerkick.

Nigeria saw an effort cleared off the line while Ghana came just as close to scoring when Yeboah struck the woodwork, as the Flying Eagles held on to the lone goal lead going into the break.

A frenetic first half made way for a closely contested second half, in which Nigeria sealed passage to a ninth final appearance with a late penalty converted by Musa Muhammed.

Nigeria now awaits the winner of the second semi-final holding on Thursday between host nation Senegal and fellow West Africans Mali.
