Eden Hazard scored the lone goal to keep Chelsea five points clear at the top of the Premier League ahead of Manchester City that eased some pressure off manager Manuel Pellegrini with a win over Leicester City.

Following the League Cup final triumph over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Chelsea returned to Premier League action against West Ham United on Wednesday night.

And a header from Hazard midway through the first half was enough to give the Blues a 1-0 win against Sam Allardyce’s men in a match that saw Ramires denied by the post in the second half.

The result puts Chelsea, that have a game in hand, on 63 points, ahead of Man. City that remain second with 58 points after goals at the end of each half from David Silva and James Milner gave the champions a 2-0 win at home to bottom club Leicester City.

Elsewhere in the Premier League on Wednesday, Victor Moses scored a header to help Stoke City win 2-0 at home to Everton, with Mame Biram Diouf getting the second goal for Stoke.

And at Anfield, a fierce long range effort from Jordan Henderson along with a Daniel Sturridge header saw Liverpool return to fifth place with a 2-0 win over Burnley.
