Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus, linked with Arsenal move in summer, on Tuesday signed a contract extension which will keep him with the German club until the summer of 2019.

According to Reus, “I am very happy with my decision for Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund is my hometown and Borussia is simply my club. I look forward to a successful future with our team and our fantastic fans behind us.”

Having seen two of the club’s prized players (Mario Götze and Robert Lewandowski) leave for Bayern Munich in recent years, Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke stated “We never let ourselves be influenced by all the rumours. We always saw a good chance that this exceptional player could consciously decide in favour of Dortmund.”

Reus has endured what has so far been a torrid domestic season for the club, though helped the club climb off the foot of the Bundesliga stabdings when he opened the scoring in a 3-0 win at Freiburg over the weekend.

The 25-year old had two years left on his previous deal with the Bumblebees and had been subject of speculation linking him with a summer move from the Signa Iduna Park outfit to any of archrivals Bayern Munich, European champions Real Madrid as well as FA Cup holders Arsenal.
