Fulani militiamen burn down Nigerian town

A town in Kogi state, in central Nigeria has been burnt down by a militia of the Fulani herdsmen.

Reports said that the militiamen burnt down Miza, near the capital, Lokoja in an attack early today.

One report said about 1000 men carried out the attack.

The residents of the town, have had a running battle with the herdsmen, with houses torched in Abugi and Agini, two towns near Miza, all in the Lokoja local government area.

During the week, an encounter between the Fulanis led to the death of no fewer than seven persons, five of them herdsmen.

Some residents expecting a reprisal attack had fled to Lokoja.
