Governor Martins Elechi: boycotts all PDP primaries

Governor Martins Elechi of Ebonyi state and his cabinet have shunned all the primaries conducted, so far, by the Peoples Democratic Party in the state. The governor, a PDP elected governor, also boycotted Monday’s gubernatorial primary election held in Abakaliki.

Dr Oyekachi Eni, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, gave the government position at a news conference in Abakaliki.

He said that the PDP, under the leadership of Gov. Martin Elechi, had not participated in all the primaries in the state since Nov. 24 when the National Working Committee of the party announced the postponement of the exercise in Ebonyi, Adamawa, Ondo and Taraba states.

The governor’s spokesman stressed that the mainstream PDP in the state had stayed away from the splinter group primaries.

According to him, Elechi is not participating and has not participated in the primaries.

Therefore rumours or publications that Elechi lost in the Sunday’s Senatorial primaries in the state are false.

Eni, therefore, advised politicians in Ebonyi to be moderate in their utterances to avoid heating up the polity and for peace to reign in the state.

He, however, condemned the recent attack by political thugs on the courts in an effort to disrupt the administration of justice in the state.

“We want the country and the world to know that Elechi’s administration is not ready to mortgage the freedom of the people for a spoon of porridge.

“Ebonyi people are not for sale. Ebonyi people cherish and value their honour and integrity. Ebonyi people cannot allow the labour of our foundig fathers to be in vain,” he said
