Jimi Agbaje, a pharmacist has been picked as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the primary for Lagos State, beating fellow rival for the ticket, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.

He won 434 votes to Obanikoro’s 346 votes.

The result was announced at about 11:20pm Monday, with voting initially delayed for long hours.

Senator Obanikoro was said to have staged a walk-out as the result was being announced.

Mr Tokunbo Kamson scored 46, Engineer Deji Doherty scored 21, while Mr Babatunde Gbadamosi also scored 21 votes.

Eight Hundred and forty six delegates across the 20 local government areas of the state participated in the governorship primaries.

Announcing the winner of the primaries, chairman of the governorship electoral committee, Senator Saidu, Umar Kumo said “I hereby declare Mr Jimi Agbaje as the candidate of the PDP for the. 2015 governorship elections.”

Channels TV reported that there was an attempt to snatch the ballot box while counting was in progress.

There was also a report of discrepancy between accredited delegates and the number of votes cast.

Mr Jimi Agbaje is a pharmacist by training from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

He will be facing Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode of the All Progressives Congress in the February 2015 governorship election.

Ambode, the former accountant general of Lagos State, was picked at the APC’s primary in Lagos last week.
