Brazilian legend Pele was taken to hospital Wednesday with a stomach ailment, missing an event at the museum honouring his career in the southeastern city of Santos, Brazilian media reported.
The 74-year-old was hospitalised at Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein facility as a precaution, Globo’s web news portal reported. Other media report quoted a spokesman as saying he was not believed to be seriously ill.
Santos prefecture indicated Pele, full name Edison Arante do Nascimento, had been unable to attend a book launch “for health reasons” and that the event would be rescheduled.
