The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,Secretariat along Port Harcourt/Aba Expressway in Port Harcourt,has been gutted by fire.

Arson is being suspected as unidentified persons in thee early hours of today tied up the security guards on duty, before the building was set on fire.

Jerry Needam,the Special Adviser to Felix Obuah, Chairman of PDP,on Media said early arrival of State fire service helped to put out the fire.

Obuah blamed desperate politicians who he claimed wanted the party to postpone the its ward and local Government Congresses scheduled to take place tomorrow, Saturday.

“They have failed because arrangements have been concluded and we are going ahead. Nobody can stop it.PDP will come tops”.

The fire incident this morning happened 24 hours after 15 Governorship aspirants held a mega rally insisting on rotation of power in the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP,at the Liberation Stadium.

They warned President Goodluck Jonathan and the national leadership to intervene in the crisis rocking the state branch of the party, which they claimed has been hijacked by Nyesom Wike,former Minister for Education, who nurses a governorship ambition.

The mega rally which held at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt was attended by aspirants who were drawn mainly from the Riverine Ijaw and Ogoni parts of the state.

Professor Israel Owate,the National Coordinator, Rivers PDP Mainstream said the rally was called to bring to the notice of the national leadership of the party and President Goodluck Jonathan about the impending tragedy that would befall the party if rotation of power guaranteed in the federal and party constitution is not upheld.

Governorship Aspirant after another pointed out that the national leadership and the President have been misled to believe that those of them asking for power shift from Ikwerre (upland) where the incumbent Governor Chibuike Amaechi comes from are working for the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Lulu-Briggs,one of the aspirants warned that so much lies have been told to deceive the people and the president.
