A goal in each half from Charlie Austin helped Queens Park Rangers climb off the foot of the table with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa in a Premier League match at Loftus Road on Monday night.

The result condemned Paul Lambert’s Villa side to a fifth consecutive league defeat with no goals scored in that run, having began the season with three wins and a draw in its opening four matches.

Meanwhile QPR manager Harry Redknapp felt his striker can score more when he stated after the match, ”Charlie Austin came up with two great finishes and he’s a smashing lad. He should get a good tally of goals.”

Villa had began the match brighter, with Ashley Westwood and Carlos Sanchez testing QPR goalkeeper Robert Green but it would be the home side to break the deadlock against the run of play when Austin stabbed in a header down from Bobby Zamora in the 17th minute.

Christian Benteke glanced a header just wide moments later, before shooting straight at Green just before half-time as the visitors searched for a way back but went into the break a goal down.

Green did well to clear a poor backpass from Sandro and prevent a lurking Benteke from capitalising for Villa just before tha hour mark, while Junior Hoilett struck the post at the other end in the 67th minute.

QPR needed only a minute’s more wait to get a second goal however, as Austin arrived in time ahead of Villa defender Ron Vlaar to turn in a cross from Eduardo Vargas and complete his brace.

Vargas then squandered a chance to add a third for QPR with 15 minutes to go, shooting straight at Brad Guzan when put through on goal by a Leroy Fer pass, while Villa’s Tom Cleverley had an effort saved by Green as QPR held on for the win.
