The meeting of the top two sides in the Bundesliga ended in a stalemate on Sunday as second placed Borrusia Monchengladbach held leaders Bayern Munich to a goalless draw.

Bayern went into the encounter at the Borussia-Park in rampant form, on the back of six successive wins in all competitions and 17 goals scored in their last three matches.

David Alaba came close to scoring the Bavarians’ 18th but his goal-bound cross was kept out by Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer with help from the woodwork in the 10th minute.

Robert Lewandowski saw an effort deflected just wide of the Monchengladbach goal while Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer denied Max Kruse as the first half ended goalless.

Neuer was on hand again to deny Andre Hahn early in the second half, with Medhi Benatia helping out to deny Raffael on the rebound with a goal-line clearance.

Juan Bernat then forced Sommer to a full stretch save while Mario Götze and substitute Claudio Pizzaro failed to score late on as Monchengladbach held on for a valuable point against the champions.
