Real Madrid have closed the gap on Barcelona at the top of La Liga to just one point, after coming from a goal down to claim a 3-1 win in the El-Clasico on Saturday.

Luis Suarez was handed a surprise place in the Barça starting line-up after completing a four-month ban from football and the Uruguayan made an immediate impact to help give Barcelona an early lead.

The £75m summer signing from Liverpool cut in from the right before sending a pass across to an onrushing Neymar, who fired into the bottom corner to put the visitors ahead in the fourth minute.

Real dominated play from there on, with Karim Benzema being denied by the Barça woodwork twice midway through the first half while a strong penalty shout for a Gerard Pique handball was waved aside in the 34th minute.

Real would eventually get a deserved breakthrough a minute later when Pique handled again in the area off a Marcelo cross, Cristiano Ronaldo scoring the resultant penalty.

Ronaldo’s goal was his 16th in the league and 21st in all competitions this season as he became the first player in this season’s La Liga to beat Barça goalkeeper Claudio Bravo in goal.

The momentum remained with Real in the second half and it did not take long for the second to arrive, as Pepe rose highest to score from a Toni Kroos cornerkick six minutes after the interval.

And the comeback was completed on the hour mark in breathtaking fashion, after great show of persistence from Isco to beat two Barça players to the ball just by the byline before finding Ronaldo on the edge of the box.

The Portuguese ace passed the ball on to James Rodriguez who in turn sent Benzema through on goal, with the French striker slotting a low effort in via the foot of the post.

Benzema’s goal killed the fight in the Barcelona players as Real became content with the two-goal lead and wasted a handful of opportunities to extend the lead in the closing half-hour of the encounter.
