A 39 year-old man, Gbenga Anaorin, has been arrested and detained by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a two-year-old girl.

Gbenga, a carpenter, who works in the same compound with the father of the victim in Okpanam town, allegedly committed the offence on Sunday.

According to a press release signed by the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, ‎the incident was known when on the evening of 5 October, 2014, the little girl started crying of pain in her private part while urinating.

When questioned by her father, the two year-old girl pointed at the suspect.

Following a report of the incident at the Okpanam Police Division by the father of the victim, ‎the suspect was arrested.

DSP Kalu said the rape victim has been taken to hospital for treatment.
