A 39 year-old man, Gbenga Anaorin, has been arrested and detained by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a two-year-old girl.
Gbenga, a carpenter, who works in the same compound with the father of the victim in Okpanam town, allegedly committed the offence on Sunday.
According to a press release signed by the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, the incident was known when on the evening of 5 October, 2014, the little girl started crying of pain in her private part while urinating.
When questioned by her father, the two year-old girl pointed at the suspect.
Following a report of the incident at the Okpanam Police Division by the father of the victim, the suspect was arrested.
DSP Kalu said the rape victim has been taken to hospital for treatment.
