Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it had displayed notice of the 2015 general elections in line with its timetable and schedule.

This was done by INEC branches in all the Nigerian 36 states.

A statement signed by Mrs Adenike Tadese, the Chief Public Affairs Officer of the commission in Osun state, said the notice had been displayed at the headquarters and local government offices across the state.

The statement said it was in “pursuant to INEC timetable for 2015 general elections and in accordance with provisions of Section 30 (1) & (2) of Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).

“Notice of 2015 general elections should be published not later than 90 days before the day appointed for holding of an election.

‘’Under this Act, notice is hereby given that election to the following offices shall hold.’’

The statement added that Presidential Election would hold on Feb 14, 2015 and the National Assembly election slated for Feb 14, 2015, while the state houses of assembly election was fixed for Feb 28, 2015.

In Kano The INEC Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Alhaji Garba Mohammed, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the commission had pasted the notice in each of the three senatorial districts.

‘’We have also pasted the election notice in all the 24 federal constituencies and 40 state assembly constituencies in the state as directed by our headquarters.

‘’This singular action has also put to rest the insinuations, reservations or doubt being entertained in some quarters on the possibility of conducting the election,’’ he said.

According to him, the purpose of putting the election notice is to announce the dates of the general election as already contained in the election timetable and schedule.

Mohammed said it was also intended to remind members of the public about the dates or the timetable of the election.

He said the electoral act also directed INEC to put the election notice not later than 90 days of the election.

A cross section of people who spoke to NAN on the notices of the election expressed hope that the polls would be hitch-free.
