South Africa national team coach Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba has stated his desire to see the Bafana Bafana end a winless streak against Nigeria when both nations meet in a Cup of African Nations qualifier on Wednesday.

The Super Eagles have never lost a match at senior level against South Africa but Mashaba stated he has a ”gut feel” that Nigeria’s dominance in the head-to-head which spans 22 years can be ended tomorrow.

”Wednesday could be a defining moment,” Mashaba said of the match which will take place in Cape Town, adding that ”it is time to kick this habit of losing to Nigeria.”

Speaking in the same light, striker Sibusiso Vilakazi – who scored twice in South Africa’s opening match in the qualifying group – stated the players are motivated to make South Africans proud.

”They are prepared to fight and want to bring pride and happiness to the country,” he said, adding that ”we are aware of our record against Nigeria and need to change it.”

South Africa began its qualifying campaign with a 3-0 win over Sudan in Omdurman last Friday while Nigeria surrendered an early lead to lose 3-2 at home to Congo in Calabar.
