Asisat Oshoala was the highest soaring Falconet when her four goals helped Nigeria to a resounding 6-2 win over North Korea in the semi-final of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Canada.

Having reached the last four of the competition for three successive editions, the Super Falconets will now contest a second final in four years against a Germany side playing in its third successive final of the competition.

Germany beat Nigeria 2-0 when it hosted the 2010 edition, before falling to a shock defeat at the hands of the United States in the 2012 edition held in Japan.

This time however, Peter Dedevbo’s Falconets will head into Sunday’s final against Germany with much confidence after a masterclass perfomance saw them ease past the Koreans.

Courtney Dike, who scored the competition’s fastest ever hoal against South Korea in the group stage, set the ball rolling against North Korea when she struck the third fastest goal at Canada 2014 just afte the first minute.

Nigeria’s second came midway through the first half when Oshoala capitalised on poor defending to nick the ball off a Korean defender, round the Korean goalkeeper and slot into the net.

The 2006 champions pulled a goal back just past the half-hour mark when Ri Un-Sim got on the end of a long pass, beat two Nigerian defenders and then goalkeeper Sandra Chiichii with an effort into the top corner as the half ended 2-1 in Nigeria’s favour.

While the first half made for a good show for spectators, the second half was the cherry on the cake as a goal fest manifested, starting in the 55th minute through Uchechi Sunday within a minute of coming on.

Oshoala then made it 4-1 for Nigeria on the hour mark with her second and best goal of the day, striking a curling 20-yard effort into the top corner for her fifth goal of the competition.

The Koreans however kept themselves in the contest two minutes later when Jon So-Yon converted a penalty earned after Ugo Njoku was adjudged to have handled in the area.

But hope of an unlikely comeback were quickly doused four minutes later when Oshoala completed her hattrick before the attacking midfielder became only the third player to score more than three goals in a U20 Women’s World Cup match with her fourth five minutes from time.

Nigeria’s coach Dedevbo stated after the match that ”I had said to my girls before the tournament that the World Cup really starts at the quarter-finals. Since that stage, my team have improved.”

He added that ”if you want to accomplish great things,it is important to have intelligence in your team and a player who can make the difference like Asisat did today.”

The Falconets’ 6-2 win also entered the record books as the highest scoring semi-final while Oshoala now leads the race for the competition’s golden boot award with seven goals ahead of Germany duo Pauline Bremer and Sara Däbritz.

Bremer gave Germany a 12th minute lead in the second semi-final against France, latching on to the rebound after the France keeper kept out Däbritz’s initial effort to score her fifth goal of the competition.

European champions France, who beat Germany in the semis of the Euro U19 Championship, went on to dominate the half but saw chances go begging as Mylaine Tarrieu forced a reflex save from the German keeper while Sandie Toletti headed the rebound over an open goal.

Griedge Mbock Bathy however found France’s breakthrough oh the stroke of half-time when she powered home a header with the help of a deflection over the Germany goalkeeper.

The French girls continued to dominate in the second half but to their rue saw Lena Petermann pounce on a loose ball in the area to give Germany the winner nine minutes from time.

France will now face Korea DPR in Montreal in the third place playoff while Germany will face Nigeria for the title later on Sunday at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium.
