Osun election: SSS shuts down Lagos office of pollster

Two weeks  to the governorship election in Osun State, western Nigeria, armed operatives from State Security Services, SSS have reportedly swooped on the Ojodu Lagos headquarters of the Research & Marketing Services Limited (RMS), a leading Market Research Agency in West and Central Africa, said to be conducting an opinion poll for the election.

According to a report by Osun Defender, the operatives, before sealing up the office harassed and arrested staff, and also confiscated undisclosed documents, laptops, phones and other electronic devices from the company.

“The menacingly-looking operatives refused to grant any interview, simply saying “orders from above”, Osun Defender reported.

The news portal said the organisation has already concluded opinion sampling in the 30 LGs in the state.

 RMS operates in 26 countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroun, Senegal, Kenya and DRC .

The incumbent governor, Rauf Aregbesola is being challenged in the election scheduled for 8 August, by Iyiola Omisore, a former senator and former deputy governor. Omisore belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party, while Aregbesola is of the All Progressives Congress.
