Four-time NBA Most Valuable Player LeBron James has announced he will return to hometown club Cleveland Cavaliers next season, bringing a four-year stint with Miami Heat to an end.

James had left the Cavaliers for Miami in 2010 under controversial circumstances, going on to lead the Heat to an impressive four successive NBA Finals alongside fellow superstars Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.

The 29 year old however was on the losing side in the 2014 Finals as San Antonio Spurs claimed last season’s championship and prevent Miami from winning three consecutive titles following the wins of 2012 and 2013.

In a statement posted on Sports Illustrated, James said ”I always believed that I’d return to Cleveland and finish my career there. I wasn’t going to leave Miami for anywhere except Cleveland. The more time passed, the more it felt right. This is what makes me happy.”

He stated further that ”Our city hasn’t had that feeling in a long, long, long time. My goal is still to win as many titles as possible, no question.”

James also stated he is excited about returning to the Cavaliers and is looking forward to helping some of the young players – including Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson – to become better players.

James rejoins the franchise from northeast Ohio after opting out of his contract with Miami Heat, despite having two years left on the contract.
