Eighty one students from Nigeria’s Agriculture University FUNAAB in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, graduated with first class honours, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Oyewole said on Saturday, at the institution’s Convocation ceremony.
Prof. Oyewole said in Abeokuta that of the 3,859 graduating students, 3,55
5 enrolled for first degree, while 304 were post-graduate students.
Oyewole said the Colleges of Animal Sciences, Livestock Production and Natural Sciences had 20 first class graduates each.
“This academic feat was due to the conducive and enabling environment which paved the way for our students to excel not only in the country but internationally.
“This is a university that keeps on emphasising that we don’t want our students to just go away from this school with the certificate alone, but with practical aspects of their learning,’’ he said.
He said the institution was committed to the provision of visionary leadership, sustainable management of resources and committed to providing world-class future leaders.
The Chancellor, Obi Ezobia, commended President Goodluck Jonathan for ensuring peace in various institutions, saying that the president was instrumental in the development of infrastructures in FUNAAB.
President Goodluck Jonathan, represented by Prof. Julius Okojie, said in his address that the Federal Government would continue to earmark adequate funds for education.
President and the Executive Secretary of the National University Commission, said that government would continue to seek the support of Nigerians on government policies on education.
