Politicians have started again. One week to the governorship election in Ekiti State (21 June 2014), Ayo Fayose, the Peoples democratic Party candidate has hit town to woo the electorate with rice. This has been attracting many snide comments from the social media, especially Facebook.

For example, Gboyega Akosile, a journalist said: “Just what can you say about this? Less than N1,000 rice for the future of their children’s education, health care provision, employment generation, rural infrastructure, good roads among others? This is Fayose’s electoral promise in Ekiti because I watched his campaign flag off and not a single manifesto was presented! Well the people of Ekiti will determine who rules them on June 21!”

Rose Moses, another media personality added: There is God o! Politicians, continue with the politics of rice, salt, and dirty notes. There is God in everything we are doing. All these useless grains/chicken feeds you are sharing, the cries of the millions of people you, in the long run leave hungry, will answer!”

However, will the people of Ekiti allow themselves to be humiliated this way?

We commend this ‘democratic’ act. Please add a groundnut oil, dry pepper and eggs…… We are very happy we have the best democracy in the world. Can we just skip the election and install you? We can save INEC some money that way.
