Lagos – Some football fans in Lagos on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction at the final 23-man list presented for the 2014 World Cup by the Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi.

The fans told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that some players they expected to be selected were not featured in the list.

NAN reports that the list left out Sunday Mba, Nnamdi Oduamadi, Ejike Uzonenyi, Ike Uche, Obinna Nsofor, Daniel Akpeyi, Joel Obi and Nosa Igiebor.

The list included goalkeepers — Vincent Enyeama, Austin Ejide and Chigozie Agbim — and attackers Osaze Odemwingie, Ahmed Musa, Shola Ameobi, Emmanuel Emenike, Babatunde Michael, Victor Moses and Uche Nwofor.

The selected defenders are: Joseph Yobo, Elderson Echiejile, Juwon Oshaniwa, Godfrey Oboabona, Azubuike Egwueke, Kenneth Omeruo, Efe Ambrose and Kunle Odunlami.

The midfielders are: Mikel Obi, Ogenyi Onazi, Ramon Azeez, Michael Uchebo and Reuben Gabriel.

A businessman, Chigozie Azubogu, said that he was disappointed at the selection of some of the players and dropping of others.

He claimed that some of the selected players did not deserve it while some dropped players were outstanding.

Azubuogu told NAN: “If we want to make an impact at the World Cup, those players dropped must, at least, be on the bench because of their performances,’’ he said.

A banker, Chidiebere Ojukwu, said that he was not satisfied with the inclusion of Ameobi in the list.

“The only reason I questioned the list is because of Shola Ameobi. He was not that effective in his club,’’ he claimed.

A lawyer, Patrick Okongwu, said: “I noticed some irregularities in the selection.

“Some players who made the list were not supposed to be there while those who did not make it should have been there.

“Shola Ameobi made it but he was inconsistent at his club, while Ike Uche who was impeccable was dropped.

“I do not know the criteria.”

The fans, however, wished the Super Eagles well, and pledged their support for the team.

In some of their recent friendly matches, Super Eagles played a 2-2 draw with Scotland and 0-0 with 2004 European Champions, Greece.

Eagles are billed to play the United States on June 7 after which they will depart for Brazil where they are in Group F alongside Iran, Argentina and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
