Gombe govt. expresses shock over grain market fire incident

Gombe, May 21, 2014(NAN) Gombe State Government on Wednesday expressed shock over fire incident that razed down more than 200 shops containing good worth millions of Naira at the Grains’ market in Gombe.

The state Deputy Governor, Mr Thanda Rubainu, who led government delegation to the scene, described the incident as unfortunate.

“It is unfortunate, properties were lost but we give God the glory because no life was loss, ” he said.

The deputy governor, however, called on the grains’ merchants to have faith in God and consider the disaster as an act of God.

Also speaking, Mr Kasim Toro, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties, also sympathised with the merchants and urged them to build confidence in God.

Toro, however, directed the merchants to write a comprehensive report and submit to the government for possible assistance.

Responding, Malam Usman Adam, the chairman Grain Merchants Association in the state, said his members had lost more than 200 shops with goods worth millions of naira.

The News Agency of Nigeria also reports that official of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) inspected the scene of the inferno which started around 3 a. m.
