DAWN Games: Lagos defeats Ekiti, dominates basketball

Lagos – The hosts, Lagos State has walloped Team Ekiti 72-28 to maintain its dominance in the male basketball event at the ongoing Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Games.

The Games are to discover talents from secondary schools in the South-Western part of the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Team Lagos in their first game of the competition had white-washed Ogun 73-35.

“We are the best team in the male category. Our score line compared to others, simply proves our capabilities,” the Captain of the Lagos team, Promise Igbannu said.

Igbannu, a student of the Federal Science and Technical College, Yaba, said the team would not relent in the efforts to win the gold medal.

“We will win the gold medal. There is no stopping us.

“We have trained very hard for this and we are very sure of beating any opposition that comes our way.

In the other matches played at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre Yaba, Team Ogun, shook off their earlier loss to Lagos and defeated Osun, 57-41.

Lagos, already through to the semi-finals, will play Osun, while Ekiti will play Ogun in the third and final group matches.

In the female event, Team Ogun defeated Oyo 21-18, while Team Lagos overwhelmed Team Ekiti, 38-4 in their second round matches.

In the third round matches, Team Oyo came from their sudden loss to Ogun to pound Team Ekiti 52-11, while Team Lagos defeated Team Ogun 38-15. (NAN)
