New state executives were elected nationwide Saturday by consensus at the congresses of the All Progressives Congress.

In Ogun state, Chief Roqeeb Adeniji,who was the former State deputy Chairman of the defunct ACN emerged the Chairman, while Toyin Ayebusuwa from Ogun Waterside emerged the State Secretary.

Twenty nine other officers were similarly elected, in a voting monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Governor Amosun while addressing the mammoth crowd at the congress, urged members of the party to unite in order to overcome the challenges ahead, noting that the party’s month-long congresses have produced “no victors, no vanquished.”

Amosun: no victor no vanquished

He said the congresses in Ogun APC had proven that “free and fair elections are possible in Nigeria if we all abide by the rules.

“One thing we should all take away from the conduct of our congresses is that there was no overt or covert attempt to impose candidates or disenfranchise anyone. The exercises were conducted in a peaceful atmosphere and all electors exercised their right of franchise without let or hindrance”, Amosun said.

He reaffirmed his previous stand that the former governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba remained the leader of the party in the State.

“Though, by my position as the governor, I’m regarded as the leader of the party, but we all know that we have a leader, Akinrogun Olusegun Osoba. We have his blessings for what we are doing here now. Infact, I spoke with him this morning”, Amosun revealed.

The voting was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).In Gombe State, the party elected a-31-member executive officers to run the affairs of the party in the state.

Announcing the results, the Secretary of the Congress Committee, Alhaji Baba Madugu, said that the election was conducted through affirmation of “Yes” or “No” votes by the delegates because there was only one contestant in each of the positions.

Madugu said that Mr Magaji Doho, the Interim Chairman of the party was elected substantive chairman, while Mr Simon Dauda-Tula emerged Deputy Chairman of the party.

In his acceptance speech, Doho said the executives would go to all the nooks and crannies of the state to mobilise the people to vote for the party in the 2015 general elections to ensure change.

In Yobe, Alhaji Maimala Buni, emerged as the new chairman of the party in the state.

Maimala and 34 others emerged as the party’s executive council members through a consensus conducted and ratified by about 1, 000 delegates from 178 wards in the state.

Mr Usman Abbas, the party’s returning officer read out names of the 35-member executive council for adoption and possible objections to the delegates before the commencement of election.

Abbas said that the constitution of the party provided room for consensus but that the delegates must endorse and elect the candidates before returning them as elected officers.

The election was supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

During the polls, Alhaji Adamu Chilari was returned as the new Deputy Chairman of the party, while Abubakar Bakabe, emerged as secretary.

From Sokoto State, the results show that Bala Abubakar emerged as Chairman of the party in the state, while Alhaji Usman Danmadami was returned as Vice Chairman.

Announcing the results, Alhaji Baba Dalla, who conducted the election on behalf of the national secretariat of the party, also said that Aminu Bello was elected as Secretary of the party.

Dalla said 1,620 delegates attended the congress.

In the FCT, the congress produced Alhaji Abdulmalik Usman as Chairman.

Speaking to newsmen after his election by the 382 delegates who attended the congress, Usman pledged to promote internal party democracy.

He also promised to provide a level-playing ground to all members irrespective of tribal and religious differences.

NAN reports that the election was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere.

The chairman and other officials were elected through consensus.

Also in Zamfara, 37 officials emerged through consensus at the congress which took place at the Sardauna Memorial Stadium, Gusau.

The Congress Committee Chairman, Alhaji Hadi Gumel, said the new executives emerged unopposed following the decision of members of the party to conduct a rancour-free congress.

Gumel said that Alhaji Lawali Kaura-Namoda was returned as Chairman, while Lawali Bala was elected Deputy Chairman, and Alhaji Sani Mono emerged as Secretary.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Alhaji Lawali Kaura-Namoda thanked members for the peaceful congress and assured that the new leadership would not fail them.

In Lagos State, the congress elected 35 new executives by consensus.

The State Chairman of the party, Mr Henry Ajomale and the Deputy Chairman, Mr James Odunbaku retained their positions.

Mr Wasiu Sanni was elected State Secretary, while Mrs Rebecca Ajose emerged as Treasurer.

Mr Dele Kosoko, the Chairman of the Congress Electoral Committee, who announced the results, said the election was conducted in line with the electoral law.

Kosoko said that the delegates chose the executives on their own and that they were not coerced or forced to make their decisions.

Speaking after the election, Ajomale thanked the delegates for the trust reposed in them and pledged that the new executives would do all its best to further advance the fortunes of the party in the state.

In Bayelsa, Chief Tiwei Orunimighe emerged as the Chairman of the party during the congress, which was held at the party’s secretariat in Yenagoa.

He charged party members to work in unity, noting that the APC had come to change the face of politics in Bayelsa.

The chairman lauded party members, who he described as law-abiding and peaceful, even in the face of aggression.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the emergence of Orunimighe as the party chairman in the state followed a harmonisation accord adopted by party delegates from the eight local government areas.

Other officers elected include Eddy Julius, Deputy Chairman and Marlin Daniel as Secretary.

Also in Enugu State, Dr Ben Nwoye emerged the Chairman of the party, while Retired Maj.- Gen. Chris Eze was elected as Secretary of the party.

Others elected include Mr Adolphus Udeh as the Deputy Chairman, Messrs Emecheta Ugwu, Anike Nwoga and Ebere Okoro emerged as vice chairmen of the three senatorial zones of Enugu East, West and North.

Announcing the result, the Chairman of the Congress Committee in the state, Mr Uche Onyeagocha commended the peaceful conduct of the congress.

In his acceptance speech, the new state Chairman, Nwoye said the executive would produce credible candidates that would take over the government in the state.

In Oyo State, the Congress returned the Interim Executive members led by Chief Akin Oke as new executives.

Speaking, Gov. Abiola Ajimobi hailed the peaceful conduct of the congress.

He said: “I want the winners not to adopt a winner-take-all approach and should be fair to all,” he said.

Similarly, in Kwara, Alhaji Ishola Balogun-Fulani emerged as the new Chairman of the party, while Mr Yemi Afolayan emerged as the Secretary.

The Secretary of the Congress Committee, Alhaji Hafiz Damilola, who announced the result, described the election of the new executive as peaceful and orderly.

In his acceptance speech, the new chairman said the new executives would not betray the confidence reposed in them.

Ametuo , a former state chairman of the defunct ACN was elected by affirmation at a congress of the party held in Lokoja on Saturday.

Also elected were Linus Enenche as the Secretary while Mr Ismaila Yahaya became the Treasurer of the party…

Other officers of the party were also elected by affirmation during the congress which was witnessed by officials of the INEC.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman promised to quickly reconcile all aggrieved members of the party, describing the party as a family.

Ametuo also promised to lead the party to victory in all the elections in the state in 2015.

Similarly in Anambra, Chief Emeka Ibe was returned unopposed as the chairman of the party in the state while Mr Chukwuma Agufugo and Mr Okelo Madukife were also returned as Secretary and Public Relations Officer by consensus.

The congress was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission and some officials of the party at the national level.

However, in Cross Rivers, the congress was postponed indefinitely following alleged discrepancies in some wards and local government congresses of the party.

Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Dr.Ernest Osifo, announced the postponement during a meeting with stakeholders in Calabar.

He said the party had resolved to introducel a credible electoral procedure following alleged irregularities reported in 59 out of the 196 wards as well as in seven of the 18 local Local Government areas of Cross River.

He said the postponement of the congress would enable the committee to address grey areas in the affected wards and council areas and ensure that the rescheduled state congress was transparent.

He said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had also expressed concern over the irregularities and warned against the consequences of going ahead with the exercise without addressing the grey areas
