The Bayelsa United Football Club (FC) on Saturday beat How Mine Club of Zimbabwe 2-0 to advance to the next round of the CAF confederation cup and thus qualified for the next round on a 3-2 goals aggregate.

Bayelsa had lost the first leg,1-2 in Zimbabwe on March 22.

The goals were scored by Buhari Jafar and Azubuike Okechukwu in the 58th and 88th minutes.

Bayelsa made several attempts at the visitor’s goal but the goalkeeper of How Mine, Ephraim Mazarura denied them early goal.

The first goal by Bayelsa United forced the Zimbabweans to come out to look for an equaliser but their effort was not good enough to produce the desired result.

Bayelsa United coach, Richard Bubagha, commended his players, saying that they played to instructions.

Bubagha said they were looking forward to their next opponent in the championship and assured that his team would not disappoint Nigerians.

“My boys played to instruction. In the second half of the game, we changed our pattern of play to get the needed result.

“We are not going to disappoint Nigeria in this competition, We will be taking the matches as as they come’’, he said.

The captain of Bayelsa United, Solomon Junior, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that they had to up their game because a draw would have knocked them out of the tournament.

“It was a difficult match, they came here to defend, but we had to raise our game in the second half to get the goals.

“Lack of concentration at the dying minutes cost us our game over there but we had to make up for it here by beating them to move ahead’’, he said

Junior urged football fans to give them the necessary support and assured that they would win the cup.
