No fewer than 1,000 Ogun women are expected to compete for the sum of N500,000 grand prize in the 2026 Ogun Women Run.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Secretariat in the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, the Managing Director of Brussel Sport Management Ltd, Yetunde Johnson, noted that the race is focused on women’s day-to-day health and helping them keep fit.

The organisers of the 2026 Ogun Women Run have lamented that although over 1,000 women registered for the 5km race, only 500 have turned up to collect their kits.

The Project Consultant, Mr Ebidowei Oweifie, also lamented the low turnout of registered participants who had come to collect their kits.
“Over 1,000 women registered for the run, but as at the time we are speaking now, only 500 have collected their kits. However, the run is tomorrow, and we still expect more to come for their kits before the end of the day,” he said.

Also speaking, the Project Manager, Mr Emmanuel Odeh, revealed that the women’s run, scheduled to start at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, will kick off at the Sapon area of Abeokuta, en route Isale-Gbehin, Ibara Police Station, Kuto Pedestrian Bridge, to the NNPC Under Bridge, and will finish at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena.

He also disclosed that a sum of N500,000 will be awarded to the first runner, N300,000 to the second runner, and N200,000 to the third runner, while other participants will receive medals accordingly.

The Director of Sports to the Ogun State Government, Mr Oluseyi Sonde, representing the Commissioner for Sports, Mr Wasiu Isiaka, said that although the women’s run is not new, it has helped the state discover new sporting talents.
