Tunde Lemo, a renowned Nigerian banker and economist with a wealth of experience in the financial sector and a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has predicted a bright future for Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) following the inauguration of the new cargo airport in Ogun State.
Lemo, who is also a governorship aspirant under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress, said in an interview with journalists yesterday, while mobilising his supporters to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid, that the airport is expected to boost the state’s economy significantly.
“Although the airport, which will primarily facilitate the export of agricultural products, is anticipated to increase Ogun’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and contribute to Nigeria’s foreign earnings,” he said.
Speaking on the development, Lemo expressed optimism that the project would have a positive impact on the state’s economy, citing its potential to enhance export business and create new opportunities for economic growth.
“This is a remarkable achievement… it will help uplift export business, which is highly needed to boost our economy and foreign earnings,” he added.
Lemo predicted that if the project is successfully implemented, Ogun State could become one of the top three states in terms of IGR within the next five years.
The cargo airport is expected to play a significant role in promoting agricultural exports, thereby boosting the state’s GDP.
Tunde Lemo, however, lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for commissioning the laudable projects executed by Prince Dapo Abiodun for the benefit of the people.
“This is a welcome project, and it has come to stay. I congratulate Prince Dapo Abiodun and the people of Ogun State on these wonderful and laudable projects.”
He opined that the airport will not only boost Ogun’s IGR but will also reduce the stress and traffic associated with travelling to Lagos. He added that even other South-West business tycoons would prefer to travel through Ogun State to Abuja, rather than going to Lagos to board flights.
