Following intensive and fierce engagements by the Bio-led ECOWAS delegation, calling for the restoration of constitutional order by the immediate proclamation of the election results, there is still a standoff in Guinea-Bissau.

ECOWAS will finally decide on the messy situation in Guinea-Bissau at its Heads of State and Government meeting on December 14, 2025.

The Nigerian Foreign Ministry has released a statement that the leading opposition candidate, Fernando Dias, 47, is at the Nigerian Embassy in Bissau for safety.

Since the November 23 elections in Guinea-Bissau, there has been widespread tension, with uncertainty about the country’s political and economic trajectory.

The military junta, now in charge, accused a narcotic gang of heading to capture state power, which would have degenerated into chaos and instability, the reason for the coup.

Guinea-Bissau is a narco state, a hub for transshipment to Europe and America.
