Yagba East Local Government, Kogi State, has confirmed a foiled abduction that left one person severely wounded at night on Sunday, 2 November. The attack in which commuters in a commercial bus escaped by the whiskers happened along the Ijowa-Mopo road in Isanlu, the LG headquarters.

According to reports, all the passengers escaped and fled to safety. With the help of the security operatives, they returned to the scene the following morning to recover their luggage.

Press Secretary to the LG Chairman, Joshua Dare, who made the confirmation in a statement, added that the council boss has visited the wounded victim.

“The Yagba East LG Chairman visited the victim this morning in General Hospital Isanlu and has offset the total medical expenses incurred by the victim, covering the following costs: ₦400,000 for medical treatment and surgical procedures, ₦52,570 for other internal medical charges, and additionally approved the use of the local government ambulance, including fueling it to and from Lokoja to ensure a smooth transfer for further medical care.”

Yagba Federal Constituency has degenerated into a theatre of insecurity, with gunmen suspected to be Fulani making life difficult for the hardworking people. Abductions have become a regular feature in the area, forcing economic and social activities into a slumber.

Victims of kidnapping yet to secure their release from captivity in the area include Elder Omokore and his wife, who were abducted from their home about two weeks ago. Similarly, a prophet and his wife, who were kidnapped around the same period,  are still in bondage
