See Where Chinese Firm Wants to Establish Power Plant in Ogun

 

Following the recent visit of Governor Dapo Abiodun to China, as part of his ongoing global investment drive, CCETC, a Chinese firm, has expressed its readiness to establish a power generation plant and an industrial park in Ogun State.

It will be recalled that a high-powered economic team from Ogun State, led by the Governor, visited China for almost two weeks to engage with numerous investors in pursuit of partnerships and collaborations across various sectors, including technology, energy, and manufacturing.

The Chairman of CCETC, Mr. Guo Xianda, disclosed this on Friday during an extensive meeting between his team and the Governor at the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta. He pledged the company’s readiness to install a 3MW power plant at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, free of charge, to accelerate economic activities in the area.

According to Xianda, the company, based in Jiangsu, China, already has a substantial investment footprint in Nigeria and Africa. He noted that the firm currently operates over 250MW of power in Nigeria and is seeking to expand its operations further across Africa, with a total installed capacity exceeding 5,000MW.

Xianda added that the group’s interest in Ogun State covers power generation and distribution, investment in a dedicated state transmission network, and the establishment of an industrial park that will attract more Chinese manufacturers to the state.

In his remarks, Governor Abiodun thanked the group for bringing such strategic investment opportunities to Ogun State. He highlighted the resolutions reached during the meeting, which include funding, technical capacity, and the company’s readiness to move quickly in delivering key energy projects.

“The company will strategically focus on three fundamental areas of intervention, namely: strengthening power generation and distribution within the state, investing in the state’s transmission network, and establishing an industrial park that will attract more Chinese manufacturers to the state while integrating power projects,” Governor Abiodun said.

Meanwhile, the Governor is scheduled to lead the team on an inspection of ongoing distribution infrastructure and power projects currently being executed by Sahara and Powergen, as part of efforts to secure a reliable energy supply across the state.
