*Says Wurukum Flyover is Tinubu’s Gift to Gov. Alia for His Commitment to Infrastructure Development
Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has expressed surprise at the high level of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s infrastructural development in Benue State.
When Umahi was the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi, he visited Benue. And when, as Minister, he was in the same state, he was shocked at what he saw!
“I have been here several times, especially when I was Deputy Governor. I am here today as Minister of Works. I am very shocked with the development that has taken place here in the past two years. Even my aides, those who have been with me since when I was Deputy Governor, when we got here, they were asking me, sir, is this the same Benue state we have been to?
“Each of the roads I supervised today, once we get to the site, I will ask whether it’s ours from the federal Ministry of Works. So, the quality is overwhelming. I told him (Gov. Alia) that he is lucky to have good contractors who are determined to do a good job. The Directors, Engineers etc are great minds. I commend the Governor for the wonderful job he is doing for the state.
“The number of roads he is building, the Cancer centre at the teaching hospital, and so many other infrastructure.
“If I am feeling sick and I see good infrastructure, I will get well. I love development so much and I am very excited about what Gov. Alia is doing.
“Everything must not be politicized. We must put politics aside and talk about the future of this country. I will go back and tell Mr. President what I have seen in Benue state.
“I can feel it here. Benue people love Mr. President, and they also love what the Governor is doing.
“Let it be known that it is all about the people and all about God. When you have a heart to develop a place, it means you have taken God first. Gov. Alia has taken God first and he is making us proud”.

He exceeded his surprise this way:
“We are very pleased with your commitment to the people of Benue State and your intervention on our federal roads.
“We keep saying that the federal government cannot construct all the federal roads. So, when I get to a state and a Governor is doing such intervention, it shows the love he has for his people. Governor Alia, we have seen a lot of what you are doing in Benue State.
“We have seen a demonstration of love and support from your people. We have seen the federal road you are intervening in. And according to the President, there is no road that is being used by the federal government. Everybody is in the federal government.
“Everybody who uses the road in Benue is for the good governance of the Benue people.
“So, we thank you very highly. Now, this project is moving from Makurdi to Ninth Mile in Enugu State; Benue State alone covered 260km by 2. That is 520km.
“When we talk about legacy projects, Your Excellency, there is no section in any state that is up to 520km. So, you really came in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. So, you are a lucky Governor.
“The cost is about $950. Roughly $1bn. This is being funded by the China Eximbank.
“So, Benue people have every cause to be grateful to God Almighty, and for the Love President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated for the State.
“This project alone is going to be a catalyst for the economic revolution in both Benue and Enugu State, and the entire region. So, we really appreciate Mr. President.
“Your Excellency, Governor Alia, I want to thank you most sincerely. You have paid the compensation to those whose properties are affected by the construction work. This means you have paved the way for work to progress without hitches. This is very commendable. It shows your commitment to this project. It shows your support and love for Mr. President.
“This flyover was never in the plan and budget for this road. But it is a gift from Mr. President to Governor Hyacinth Alia. It is a gift he has asked me to give to you.
“Thank you again for the infrastructural development, especially the roads you are constructing and rehabilitating in the state. Thank you for caring for your people. Governance is tough, but with the hand of God upon you, you are going to be remembered at the end of this journey”.
