Katsina govt distributes 20,000 tablets for massive teacher training programme

Katsina State Government has launched a training programme for 18,000 teachers and begun the distribution of  20,000 tablets to boost teaching quality across the state.

The Ag. Governor, Malam Faruq Lawal Jobe, who flagged off the initiative at the Local Government Service Commission Conference Hall, Kaita Road, described it as a strategic investment in children’s future.

“These are not just statistics but a strategic investment in the future of our children. By equipping teachers with modern tools and necessary training, we are aligning our educational system with global standards to prepare our students for 21st-century competitiveness,” Jobe said.

According to him, the programme forms part of the state’s comprehensive education reform, which includes distributing 30,000 uniforms to underprivileged children and installing CCTV cameras in 130 schools for enhanced security.

Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Zainab Musa Musawa, hailed the initiative as “a significant milestone” in restoring educational excellence in the state.

She thanked the World Bank, Universal Basic Education Commission, and other partners for their collaboration, promising continued teacher empowerment through capacity-building programmes.

State Project Coordinator of the Teaching Excellence Support System programme, Hajiya Binta Abdulmumini, explained that 90 master trainers would cascade training to the 18,000 teachers. Each teacher receives a tablet pre-loaded with lesson plans and digital teaching resources.

Chairperson of the Katsina State Teachers’ Association, Hajiya Rakiya Shehu, praised the government’s commitment and urged stakeholders to ensure the programme’s success.

She said that the state has also provided 70 motorcycles to monitoring officers for improved school supervision, particularly in rural areas, and supplied specialised teaching aids for schools catering to blind and deaf students.

According to her, the initiative represents Katsina’s bold step toward educational transformation and improved learning outcomes for thousands of students across the state.

The ceremony attracted top dignitaries, including Chief Judge Justice Musa Danladi, Commissioner for Higher Education, SUBEB Chairman Dr. Kabir Magaji, and senior security personnel.
