Liberia’s Former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, today, congratulated President Julius Maada Bio on his new role as ECOWAS chairman, but with a note of caution that the tasks ahead are enormous and gigantic.

Madam Sirleaf told Bio that West Africa is undergoing severe challenges and she is absolutely confident in Bio’s ability to overcome them.

Madam Sirleaf, a Nobel prize winner, a woman of strong character, who raised Liberia from the ashes and ruins of a bloody 14 -year old war, was filled with optimism on Bio’s capacity to steer ECOWAS in the current hard times.
Bio took over from Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu a few days ago in Abuja.

With the new sad developments in Togo, where there is an ongoing turmoil and chaos, as Togolese are demanding the end of the Eyadema political dynasty, that might lead to another military coup in the region, Bio is saddled with gigantic tasks as the new ECOWAS chairman.

Currently, four countries in the region are under military rule, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger. The last three have exited the ECOWAS bloc.

Sirleaf’s visit to Bio is a wake up call, as a former military man, to brace up for the upcoming challenges ahead
