A Non-Governmental Organization under the aegis of Civil Society in Malaria Control Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) has on both Federal and state governments to urgently take action on Primary Healthcare Centers in Ogun state.
ACOMIN through the state coordinator Mrs Oluwafunmilayo Olatunji in a press held on Monday lamented that state healthcare facilities as become a pressing issue that needs immediate attention.
Reading on behalf of the coordinator, the state secretary Dr Tayo Akinpelu stated that “across the nation, many health centers are plagued by aging infrastructure, inadequate equipment, and unreliable power and water supplies.”
Many facilities are housed in ageing buildings with visible cracks, leaks, and potential safety hazards, shortage of medical equipment like diagnostic tools is often missing or dysfunctional, hindering quality healthcare delivery.
Frequent power cuts disrupt critical services, especially during emergencies.
Inadequate water supply poses significant health risks and hampers sanitation.”
These challenges not only impede healthcare delivery but also discourage communities from seeking essential medical care.
Patients are often forced to travel long distances to access better-equipped facilities, leading to increased out-of-pocket expenses and potential delays in treatment.
To address these pressing issues, we urge the following stakeholders to take immediate action.
Prioritize healthcare infrastructure in budgets and implement robust maintenance plans.
Partner with government and NGOs to fund infrastructure upgrades and provide essential equipment.
She however urged the media to raise awareness about the critical state of healthcare facilities and advocate for change.
Also, community leaders need to be engaged in community-led monitoring to identify and address local healthcare needs.
While highlighting what ACOMIN has been able to do she noted that Renovations, repairs, and expansions of facilities. Provision of essential medical equipment. Improved access to healthcare services and reduced wait times
