Katsina state Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has boasted that the Katsina state government, under his watch, pays the highest salaries, allowances and other incentives to Medical Doctors as part of his government’s decision to give the health sector priority.

Governor Radda insisted that “Katsina ranks among states with competitive salaries for Medical Doctors.”

He reaffirmed the state’s dedication to healthcare improvement during a courtesy visit by Professor Tosan Erhabor, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).

According to him,” this strategic move aims to retain skilled medical professionals and enhance healthcare delivery in the state.”

Governor Radda frowned at the challenge of the medical brain drain, recalling that: “Upon assuming office in 2023, we discovered an acute shortage of Doctors, with many leaving the state for opportunities elsewhere. We have taken decisive action to reverse this trend.”

Governor Radda further highlighted the importance of medical laboratory science in disease diagnosis and revealed plans to establish a state-of-the-art imaging centre at General Amadi Rimi Specialist Hospital, Katsina.

“We have already placed orders for cutting-edge machines to be installed at this centre, which will be one of the best in Northern Nigeria,” he added.

The Governor also praised the Medical Laboratory Science profession, noting that four of its members in Katsina had successfully passed competency tests, leading to their appointments as Permanent Secretaries and other key positions in the state civil service.

Governor Radda pledged the state’s support to the Medical Laboratory profession and assured of  Katsina’s commitment to continuous medical education and improved healthcare delivery.

He also included  Medical Laboratory Science students in Overseas Programmes, Prof. Erhabor Urges KATSG.

Professor Erhabor, in his remarks, appealed to Governor Radda to include Medical Laboratory students in his overseas scholarship and training programme.

He expressed the Council’s willingness to support Katsina State in establishing a degree program in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
