A 58-year-old inmate of Benin Correctional Centre, Edo State, Jacob Alonge, who escaped during the 2020 #EndSARS protest has been rearrested by operatives of the State Police Command.

Alonge was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment by Edo High Court, after being convicted of raping his own daughter Gift Alonge.

While the case was ongoing in Court, he threatened that the case would have no end.

True to his threat, his daughter and others who were coming to testify in court died in a mysterious accident.

The State Police Commissioner, Funsho Adegboye, who paraded hìn over the weekend, said the police got credible intelligence that the convict was sighted in Ossos, Akoko-Edo local government area of the state.

He further disclosed that the Command operatives stormed his house at Ososo community to rearrested him but some unscrupulous element in Ossoso community resisted his arrest.

The operatives however overpowered the resisters and rearrested the convict.

CP Adegboye said after escaping from the prison, the convict though he would not be rearrested, but that nemesis has caught up with him and would be taken to where he belonged.

“He is a dangerous human being and cant live with the people in their community,” Adegboye said.

In an interview with journalists, the convict said he escaped because every one was escaping after their prison was forced open during the #EndSARS protest.

“I escaped to my village. I was called that police are in my house and are looking for me, so I went to meet them and I was arrested,” he said.

Meanwhile, CP Adegboye has appealed to members of the public not shade criminals because they may be their victims tomorrow, noting criminals don’t have permanent friends.
