Ogun state Vehicle Inspection office (VIO), has vowed to take drastic actions against any public or private vehicle operating across the state without inspection certificate.

The Chief VIO in the state, Engr. Gboyega Ademehin in his opening remark at the grand Commissioning of the Ogun computerised Vehicle Inspection Service held at the Operational Headquarter of VIO in Quarry Abeokuta,stressed that any vehicles that does not take part in computerized inspection would be impounded as part of the effort of the service to reduce accident on roads in the state.

The VIO boss explained that the inspection certificate would be used to determine vehicles that are safe to move on the roads and streets of the state.

Added that the agency would not take it lightly with whoever fails to do vehicle inspection as serious sanction would be placed on offenders.

He also maintained that the service will annually organise an enlightenment programme to sensitize both public and private vehicle owners,will also do jingle on the importance of inspecting their vehicles.

His words, “we are going to take drastic sanctions and action against anyone that does not have inspection certificate.

“It is a must for any vehicle that want to move on the roads in Ogun state to do vehicle inspection so as to know if the car is safe to move on those roads”.

Also speaking at the event, the MD/ CEO Temple SYC Inspection limited, Segun Obayendo said the project represents safety and a means to redeem the dignity of VIO apart from what people see their work as.

“There was a time that the fear of VIO was the beginning of wisdom because they don’t usually come out for inspection of vehicles unlike the police force and whenever they go out for inspection there is always this great fear in the heart of every drive out there. Therefore,This infrastructure is to address the vehicular factor of road accidents.

“When this kicks off, motorists will be safe.

Adding that this will also want to bring back the dignity of the VIO.

“This centre in Ibara has the capacity of testing 120 vehicles in a day”. He confirmed

Meanwhile, the state commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Honorable Lekan Adegbite opined that the commissioning of the new computerized inspection centre would reduce accidents on Ogun road.

Adegbite ,however appealed to the officials of TRACE, FRSC and other sister agencies to assist in making road users comply with speed limit.

He said, “I think by commissioning this today we should be able to reduce that aspects of mechanical faults in vehicle, and others through education and enforcement will also reduce that as well so that we can ensure safety of lives and properties on high ways

“The agencies that are present here, TRACE, FRSC Police,Fire Service of Nigeria and others needs to ensure that drivers complies with speed limit on our high way, am not sure but over speeding and mechanical fault are the major culprit for most accidents. People over speed and vehicle are bad especially commercial vehicle”.

In their separate remarks, the state commander of Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Clement Oladele and the commander of Traffic compliance and enforcement Corp (TRACE), Olaseni Ogunyemi in the state opined that the computerised vehicle inspection will reduce accidents on roads across the state.

They however, urged the consultant to reach out to other road agencies so as to ensure smooth collaboration required for the success of the project.

At the commissioning was the Former national VIO director, members of Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers and Road Transport Employer Association of Nigeria, among others.
