An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Tuesday sentenced a 27-year-old man, Oluwasegun Olayemi, to one year imprisonment for stealing lap a top, necklace and other valuables worth N33,000.
Olayemi of no fixed address had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of stealing and burglary.
Delivering judgment, the Magistrate, Mr S.S. Shotayo, said that evidences before the court and the guilty plea by Olayemi proved that he committed the offences.
Shotayo therefore sentenced the convict to one year imprisonment although he gave him an option to pay N30,000 fine.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, had told the court that the convict committed the offences on Feb. 13 at about 3.00 pm at No. 25, Baba Wonder St., Itele-Awori, Ota.
Gbesi said that the Olayemi broke into the house of the complainant, Bimbola Amosu, to steal a laptop valued at N30,000, a wrist watch valued N2,000 and a silver necklace worth N1,000.
He said that the offences committed contravened Sections 390(9) and 412 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
