The Nigeria Customs Service has disclosed that Ogun ll Area Command under the control of Comptroller Olusola Bisi Alade generated N9.95 billion between April and June 2024 in Ogun state.
The Customs Area Controller Ogun II Command, Olusola Alade, during a press briefing held at the Customs Area Controller Ogun II command on Friday in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital hinted that not less than 11 factories operating without paying revenue were discovered in the state.
Comptroller Alade noted that the Command generated N12.b billion as revenue between January to June 2024.
He noted that it can be compared to N8.5 billion generated in the corresponding period of last year, 2023, thereby giving a differential of (N4. 326 billion which is a significant improvement by 51%.
While loading the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR for his policy drive to work under the principle of consolidation, collaboration and innovation, for his support which made the command intensify efforts to deploy intelligence and reconnaissance monitoring unit which led to the discovery of 11 factories which are not under excise control.
He posited that the core mandate of the command remains the generation of revenue for the Federal Government, facilitation of legitimate trade and to Protect National economic security.
According to him “This attainment is evidence of the diligence, professionalism, and commitment of our officers and men who worked tirelessly to ensure that we met and exceeded the revenue targets given to our command. It is also indicative of our steadfast commitment to the growth of our National economy”.
“Our activities in the free trade zones have improved and these brought greater success which is evident in our monthly revenue collections from April to June”.
“In April we raked in three billion, four hundred and eighty-six million, nine hundred and sixty-one thousand, one hundred eighty-six-naira, million, nine hundred and sixty-one thousand, one hundred eighty-six-naira, seventy-one kobo (N 3,486,961,186.71) in May we made two billion, eight hundred and one million, eight hundred and thirty-three thousand, seven hundred and forty kobo. (N2,801,833,739.40) while in June our revenue collection leapt to three billion, six hundred and sixty-four million, seven hundred and seventy-six thousand, four hundred and ninety-nine-naira, seven Koba (N3,664,776,499.07)”.
He assured that the command will continue to put in place the necessary measures to improve the collections with adequate support from other units of the service.
“We shall maintain success through synergy and continued dialogue, by engaging and sensitizing the local and trader communities while discharging our statutory responsibilities of enforcing compliance with government fiscal policies”.
