Some Nigerian Political Parties

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ikorodu-West chapter, Lagos State, on Monday urged political leaders and office holders not to neglect the youth, only to remember them when elections were approaching.

The president of NYCN, Ikorodu-West chapter, Mr Muyideen Yusuf, made the appeal at an interactive session in the area.

The interactive session was held with political office holders and candidates on the 2019 General Election, at the Ikorodu West council Secretariat.

Yusuf said that youths are essential in nation-building, and need to be given adequate attention by political office holders

He called on political office holders, especially those doubling candidates of All Progressives Congress(APC) in the area in the forthcoming elections to engage youths in more educative programmes.

” The empowerment programmes would go a long way in reducing violence during and after election.

“They should carry youth along in most of their plans and programmes,” Yusuf said.

He said that youths make up the highest number among the electorate and are the most vulnerable in terms of political violence in Nigeria.

Yusuf said the interactive session with political office holders was to help in getting a better attitude of political leaders and office holders to the youth.

He said it was also to warn youths not to engage themselves in political violence as the forthcoming general election draw closer.

The majority leader, Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA) Mr Sanai Agunbiade, commended the effort of the NYCN Ikorodu-West chapter for organising the interactive session.

Answering questions from youths on his achievements since he has been representing his constituency, Agunbiade, said he had impacted positively on the lives of the people.

In academics, the lawmaker said he organised best brain competition to build intelectuals within schools in the entire community, with winners and and runners up going home with prizes and cash awards.

In terms of infrastructure, Agunbiade said he facilitated the Isawo- Arepo road, Ota-Ona Itamaga road and construction of boreholes in schools, among others.

He said he had also helped to source for jobs for graduates and organised skill acquisition programmes.

” The duty of a legislator is not to do construction, infrastructure, but to pass law and oversight function, but we still go out of our way to do something to our people in the constituency,” Agunbiade said.

Mr Babajimi Benson, a lawmaker representing Ikorodu, said the local government was a fast developing one.

He was represented by Mojeed Sanni, one of his legislative aides.

Benson, also a candidate of the APC vying for the House of Representatives in Ikorodu, highlighted some of his achievements since he was elected as lawmaker for the area.

He listed some achievements as training and capacity building, renovation of schools, and building of classrooms, among others.

Benson said that the I-care centre was also initiated to attend to needs of the division.

Princess Jumoke Jimbo, Chairman Ikorodu-West, called on the youth to engage in a meaningful things and not allow themselves to be used as political thugs.
