The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has warned politicians against violence and bitterness during the forthcoming general election.

The Ooni gave the warning while receiving former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who is also the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in his palace, on Tuesday, in Ile-Ife.

He appealed to the eventual winner of the election to put the welfare of the citizens above personal gains.

The Royal Father urged all politicians to join hands to take Nigeria to the next level so as to overcome all challenges facing the country.

He also admonished politicians to try as much as possible not to forget the youth including those who work towards their successes, saying that youths are the future of the country.

“Politicians should not make politics a do or die affair, but they should maintain peaceful coexistence in all their endeavours,” he said.

Earlier, Abubakar, lauded the Ooni for his fatherly role across the country.

He said the purpose of his visit was to receive royal blessings from the Ooni.

He added that his political tour to the Southwest was based on unity and stability of the country and prayed for long life and prosperity for the monarch on the throne of his fore fathers.

Dignitaries present include former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who represented former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Mr Segun Bamigbetan, Mrs Titilayo Abubakar, former PDP National Secretary, Mr Wale Oladipupo among others.
