Ogun State chapter of Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN)  has adopted the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Otunba Rotimi Paseda as its gubernatorial candidate for the forthcoming 2019 election.

UPN State Party Chairperson, Alhaja Aminat Olatunbosun who gave this notice during a press conference held at the NUJ secretariat, Abeokuta on Friday, said the party would not be able to contest for any elective post in the state except for the House of Assembly.

He therefore said the party would be supporting the Paseda who was the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the 2015 election.

“Our party as one of the earliest political parties in Nigeria shall field candidates only for the House of Assembly for the 2019 elections and No other elective posts.

“The decision to participate in the state House of Assembly is to allow us focus and channel our machineries to occupy the state Assembly in order to bring governance to the doorstep of the downtrodden in the state through robust legislature.

“We are not participating in the 2019 governorship election in the state, UPN as party of the masses with blueprint to provide good governance to the people have been our searchlight across the length and breadth of Ogun State to look for a credible governorship candidate whose manifesto is in line with our party ideology and philosophy of our founder, the Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo of providing free education and qualitative healthcare system for the citizens.”

“We have assessed all the governorship candidates in the opposition parties in the state,Otunba Olatunde Rotimi Paseda is the best and most reliable among them all”.

Our choice of Paseda was based on his human feelings and lofty programmes to better the lives of Ogun State citizens if elected as governor of the State in 2019.

Alhaja Aminat further argued that Paseda  remains the only untainted candidate with impeccable character whose integrity has consistently earned him the trust of the people.

“In 2015 Otunba Rotimi Paseda was the governorship candidate of our party, UPN in Ogun State and he made good impression of himself by coming fourth in that election in less than six months of his joining our party.

“Therefore all the 55,230 registered members of our party to declare our unflinching support for his gubernatorial ambition come 2019,” she added.
