A 26-year-old security guard, Yahaya Nasiru, who allegedly stole his employer’s cables valued at N2.4 million, was on Wednesday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, a resident of 18b Modupe Odunlami St., in Oniru area of Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and stealing by the police.
Prosecutor Philip Osijale told the court that the accused conspired with others still at large to commit the offences on July 23 at 10:30p.m at Lekki on Lagos-Epe Expressway.
He said the stolen cables belong to Linear Engineering Company in Lekki, Lagos.
The offences contravened Sections 287 (7) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287 (7) stipulates seven years imprisonment for offenders while Section 411 stipulates two years.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs K.S. Abdulsalam, granted him bail in the sum of N400,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
She said one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused and they must deposit their international passports
with the court.
In addition, the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until Oct. 10 for mention.
