Putin: Trump must apologise to Americans – Pelosi

President Trump of America

U.S. President Donald Trump must apologise to the American people for his behaviour at his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday.

“I sadly beseech President Trump to apologise to the American people for his disgraceful, dangerous, and damaging behaviour with Putin in Helsinki,’’ Pelosi told newsmen.

Pelosi also said Trump appeared “frightened in the presence of Putin’’ and questioned whether the Russian president is blackmailing him.

“Whatever it is, it is a level of blackmail that the American people cannot afford,’’ Pelosi added.

On Monday, during a joint news conference with Putin, Trump cast doubt on the U.S. intelligence community’s assessment that Russia meddled in the 2016 election.

On Tuesday, he claimed that he misspoke and that he agreed with the U.S. intelligence’s findings.

The U.S. intelligence community released a report in January 2017 in which it concluded that that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election.

Russia has denied all allegations of interference in the election and has called the accusations “absurd.’’ (Sputnik/NAN)
